Case Study #1
The Gonstead Technique recognizes that proper intervertebral disc function is the foundation to a healthy spine and nervous system. Physical and emotional traumas can shift and misalign the spinal bones directly injuring and altering the mechanics of the intervertebral discs. Disc injury causes soft tissue damage, swelling and tissue expansion irritating the delicate nerves nearby. This nerve pressure negatively affects the organs and glands under their control. As a result, the damaged and unstable spinal joints then tighten the surrounding muscles. Spinal misalignments causing nervous system interference is called vertebral subluxation and can be present without symptoms. If left uncorrected, subluxation may lead to spinal decay over time. Correcting subluxation is the focus of our chiropractic care. Adjustments at specific places and the right time help restore the structure of your spine and the function of your nervous system. As nerve interference is removed, your body’s ability to heal, function and operate is restored and symptoms often subside.
The neck images below is a patient that walked through our doors at Vertical Chiropractic. As an active woman in her 50’s, she looks great from the outside. Without these images, it would be impossible to see the pressure on her spinal cord from a poor functioning disc. From her story, her neck pain is affecting her quality of life and related the cause of her health problem to her sleeping position. As our doctors dug deeper into her story, she confessed having neck pain on and off for the past 15 years with multiple traumas including a motor vehicle accident about 15 years ago that was left untreated by a chiropractor. She underwent physical therapy shortly after her accident with no positive outcomes. Additionally, she stated that she has been on prescription drugs for the past 10 years for a poor functioning thyroid. Is there a direct relationship between her spine, neck pain, nerve pressure, and loss of thyroid function? We believe there is, but we want you to “see” for yourself.
Since it takes the spine about 20 years to get from healthy normal to chronic spinal decay, we believe her outcomes would be different if she visited the chiropractor years ago. In fact, she was suffering from the long-term effects of Vertebral Subluxation. Since she has started Gonstead chiropractic care, her neck has stabilized, healed, corrected, and symptoms subsided. Most importantly, her life is back. But don’t take our word for it. Read what she had so say about her experience from her own free will. Remember, every case is unique as are the outcome. Treatment outcomes will vary with each individual.
“I have been getting treatment from Vertical Chiropractic for about a year now. Previously, quality of life had gone steadily downhill. I was suffering with frequent headaches both day and night and got to a point where I could not lift up my head without the help of my hand pushing my chin up.
I went to my family doctor who took x-rays and referred me to a nerve and pain specialist. I was diagnosed with bone spurs in my neck. She suggested steroid injections in my neck; which I refused. After that I went to physical therapy for several weeks; without relief. I tried acupuncture for a while. That didn’t help either. I was discouraged and very desperate to say the least.
This was not my first visit to a chiropractor; I had been to many over the years. My daughter had heard of someone who had been helped by Vertical Chiropractic. So, on the mention of that success, I made an appointment but with skepticism. I cannot stress how grateful I am for all they have done to help me. Within a few short visits the headaches began to lessen in frequency. I rarely get headaches now. I still do get treatment on the bone spur issue because it’s a problem that developed over many years. I believe the severity of my neck issues would not have developed if I had sought the treatment of Vertical Chiropractic sooner.”
